Description:
Multiple-use emergency medical eye and face protection device (certified as compliant with
NFPA
National Fire Protection Association
1999).
ImportantFeatures:
Multiple-use eye and face protection devices can include splash-resistant eyewear such as safety spectacles, goggles and faceshields that can be repeatedly worn and provide protection to the covered areas of the wearer's face and eyes. These devices must meet the requirements of
ANSI
American National Standards Institute
Z87.1, American National Standard for Occupational and Educational Eye and Face Protection Devices. In addition, junctures between materials are evaluated for liquid tight integrity in a simulated spray test.
Operating Considerations:
The selected eye and face protection device should provide protection to the face from direct impingement of blood or body fluids, or subsequent runoff. A combination of eye and face protection devices may be used to meet this level of protection. Spectacles and faceshields by themselves are not primary eye protection and may not protect the eyes against all liquid or aerosol exposures. Even though these items are intended for multiple uses, the devices must be thoroughly decontaminated and disinfected prior to reuse. Eye and face protection devices are not respirators and will not protect against airborne pathogens. Use considerations are provided in OSHA Title 29
