Description:
Specialized surface watercraft equipped to serve as a base for dive operations.
ImportantFeatures:
Ideally, boats will have dive platforms for easy ingress into the water and egress from the water. Ladders with hull cutouts are another option for facilitating water entry and egress. Should the vessel have intakes along the bottom of the hull, the ability to easily close these intakes during dive operations is important. Jet drive power trains are preferred; however if the boat uses propellers for propulsion, a propeller guard/cage is recommended (depending upon the dive platform location) to avoid diver contact with the propellers. Tank racks for securely storing air tanks are highly desirable.
Operating Considerations:
Carefully review planned mission profiles, including expected weather and water conditions, to address key capabilities such as speed, range, load capacity, towing capability, draft, propulsion type(s), and ability to carry specialized tools and equipment.
In addition to boat performance and capabilities, consider ground transport, storage, fuel, warranty and maintenance.
Training Requirements:
Core Training: U.S. Coast Guard, or equivalent, basic boater safety training course, State operator licensing and vessel specific operations training.
Initial Training: Extensive (> 2 days)
