Description: Systems or individual products to provide protection from ballistic rounds to building components such as doors, walls, windows, and fences. These systems are for protection against ballistic rounds. For protection from explosions, see item 14EX-00-BSIR.

ImportantFeatures: Products may be incorporated into the original structure, used to replace components such as doors and windows, or added to a structure (e.g. armor, glazing, or standalone barriers).

Several of the referenced standards provide classifications of the ballistic threat. For example, NIJ 0108.1 uses the following classifications by level of performance:

Ballistic resistant protective materials covered by NIJ 0108.1 are classified into five types, by level of performance:
Type 1 (22 LR; 38 Special)
Type II-A (Lower Velocity 357 Magnum; 9 mm)
Type II ( Higher Velocity 357 Magnum; 9 mm)
Type III-A (44 Magnum; Submachine Gun 9 mm)
Type III (High-Powered Rifle)
Type IV (Armor-Piercing Rifle)
Special Type

A threat assessment is recommended to establish the level of protection required.

Operating Considerations: Recommend a vulnerability assessment prior to purchase, including, at a minimum:
- The mission/purpose of the structure
- The threat profile and what level of ballistic protection will be needed
- All the components of the building. For example, if a ballistic-rated door is placed in a wall with less ballistic protection, the overall configuration may not provide the desired results.

Training Requirements: Per manufacturers recommendations.
Initial Training: Minimal (<1 day)
Sustainment Training: Minimal (<1 day)
