Description:
Handheld survey meter such as ionization chamber, Geiger-Mueller (GM) detector, or scintillation detector. Various probes allow detection of alpha, beta, beta/gamma, and neutron.
DIQCode: [D,Q]
[Note: This item was previously numbered as 07RD-01-HHCM and 07RD-01-HHSM.]
ImportantFeatures:
Two principal types: contamination meters (measuring in Counts per Minute), and dose-rate meters (measuring in mR/Hour). Some units may have dual capability.
Could be handheld or backpack variant.
Some units use multiple probes, which can be changed/configured for specific missions.
Operating Considerations:
Periodic laboratory calibration required. Check-source required for daily operation.
Most units can be calibrated in either CPM or mR/Hour. Care must be taken to attach proper calibration sticker indicating source and scale.
Ensure that probe configuration is correct for calibration scale used. Also note that unless probe is self-calibrating, it is calibrated to the specific unit with which it is being used, and may not be switched between units without recalibration (even between units that are the same make and model).
Limited battery life.
Alpha Mylar face prone to damage.
