Description: Global Positioning System (GPS) receiving device, including self-contained handhelds, mobile mounted systems, and accessory devices to enable computers and communications devices.

ImportantFeatures: Differential GPS (DGPS) compatible.
Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS)-capable GPS preferred, and GLONASS compatibility is desirable.

Operating Considerations: System requires data communications service to transmit remote location data to the managing application/system (either privately built and maintained system or leased service).
May be susceptible to interference from broadband services using adjacent frequencies - GPS antenna may require a notch filter.
Required unobstructed line of sight to satellites (not used indoors or underground).
There are several Coordinate Systems and Datum/Projections - it is critical that all involved systems (GIS, mapping, GPS receivers, etc.) are utilizing the same system AND projection.
Coordinate Systems may include: Lat/Long, State Plane, UTM, etc.
Consider external antenna options and live integration.
Datum/Projections may include: NAD 27, NAD 83, WGS 84, etc.
