Previous SEL Number:
03OE-07-ROVL
Description:
Remotely operated land vehicles to support various mission areas such as explosive device remediation, hazardous materials operations, tactical law enforcement operations, search & rescue, and surveillance/detection.
Examples include, but are not limited to rovers, scout vehicles, and surveillance platforms. See Item 03OE-07-UPGD for accessories and upgrades. Note: Previous item 03OE-07-RPVS has been replaced by 03OE-07-ROVL (land vehicles), 03OE-07-UMVS (unmanned maritime vehicle systems), and 03OE-07-SUAS (small unmanned aircraft systems).
ImportantFeatures:
Most systems consist of vehicle/robot and control station. Control station functions may include waypoint navigation or programmability for surveillance missions. Most have attachment points for camera, sensors, detectors, and other devices, most commonly video transmission. Manipulator elements are also available.
Some units may include features to enhance decontamination, including sealed articulating joints, sealed internal components, and construction from non porous material.
Operating Considerations:
For any remotely accessible vehicle, ensure that manufacturer's default access credentials (username, password) are changed prior to operational use.
Consider operating time limitations and range for controllability. Also consider ease of operation and manipulator dexterity for hazardous device operations.
Training Requirements:
Manufacturer's specifications.
Initial Training: Extensive (>2 days)
Sustainment Training: Moderate (1-2 days)
