Description: Energetic materials (explosives) required for all Bomb Squad Operations. Example operations include, but are not limited to; RSP (Render Safe Procedures), destruction operations, and access operations such as explosive breaching. For use only by current FBI Certified HDS (Hazardous Devices School) Technicians assigned to an Accredited Bomb Squad.

ImportantFeatures: Explosives necessary for these operations include, but are not limited to blasting caps, boosters, detonation cord, sheet explosives, binary explosives, and shock tube.

Operating Considerations: Bomb Squads will follow all applicable Local, State and Federal Laws regarding storage and use of explosives.

Explosives may only be purchased by FBI-Certified Hazardous Devices Technicians that are assigned to a FBI-Accredited Bomb Squad. For information on establishing new bomb squad programs, agencies should contact the Special Agent Bomb Technician in the nearest FBI Office or call directly to the FBI Program Manager at the Hazardous Devices School, (256) 842-1721.

Training Requirements: Hazardous Devices School, Redstone Arsenal, AL
Initial Training: Extensive (>2 days)
Sustainment Training: Extensive (>2 days) with 3-yr recertification rqt
