Description:
CBRN
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear
Canisters for Item 01AR-03-PAPR. Note that
NIOSH
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
approves complete respirator systems, including specific canisters. Although
CBRN
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear
canisters meet interchangeability requirements, this feature is for emergency use only. Only canisters identified as part of the approved PAPR configuration for routine use should be purchased. See the
NIOSH
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
NPPTL
National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory
Certified Equipment List for details.
ImportantFeatures:
Canisters are single filter/adsorbent elements used with a respirator; cartridges are dual filter/adsorbent elements. Canisters and cartridges are color-coded by the type of agents (chemicals) the canister or cartridge is rated against. Some canisters or cartridges may protect against multiple agents and chemicals. Some canisters and cartridges come with prefilters for particulates. The
CBRN
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear
canister's
NIOSH
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
label is color-coded OD (olive drab) green with black font, and lists the type of agents against which the canister is rated.
Operating Considerations:
Approved configuration must be maintained.
Each canister or cartridge must have a
NIOSH
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
approval number.
CBRN
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear
PAPRs with loose-fitting facepieces require cartridges approved under
NIOSH
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Schedule 23 (Chemical Cartridge Respirators).
CBRN
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear
PAPRs with tight-fitting facepieces require canisters approved under
NIOSH
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Schedule 14G (Gas Masks).
Canisters and cartridges are specific to the manufacturer's respirator and may not be interchanged with other respirators. Canisters and cartridges have a limited service life, which depends on the concentration of the hazardous substance, the temperature, relative humidity, and breathing (flow) rate through the canister or cartridge. Air-purifying respirator use is predicated on environmental monitoring to determine continued protection in accordance with OSHA 29
CFR
Code of Federal Regulations
Part 1910.134.
