Previous SEL Number: 19FD-01-URAT

Description: Unit-feeding rations are shelf-stable, pre-cooked meal systems designed to support functional units in the field. These unit meals are designed to be deployed after the initial logistical supply stream has been developed, but before a formal Food Unit with onsite meal preparation capabilities is in place. Normally, this would be between 24 and 72 hours from the start of initial deployment.

ImportantFeatures: Pre-cooked and pre-packaged to serve a defined number of personnel. Should be either self-heating or easily field re-heatable, and contain all necessary utensils and condiments for anticipated needs. The design of these rations supports the concept of having the unit members eat as a unit with food that is highly palatable even in adverse field conditions.

Operating Considerations: Unit type meals should be designed to serve a wide variety of unit sizes, up to 50 persons. They should be shelf-stable for a period of not less than 18 months without degradation of quality.
