Description:
A transportable or handheld detector that utilizes infrared spectroscopy to detect explosive material. Examples include infrared (IR) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) devices . These detectors may also have chemical detection capability when equipped with appropriate spectra libraries. See Items 07CD-01-DPIR and 07CD-FTIR.
DIQCode: [D,I]
ImportantFeatures:
Spectral libraries are updatable.
Identifies solids, liquids, gases.
Products are generally ruggedized or transported in ruggedized cases.
Some units may have the ability to transmit results, or to "reach back" for analytical information.
Operating Considerations:
Consider strengths and weaknesses of specific technologies, and utilize multiple technologies to increase confidence levels, e.g., FTIR to complement Raman.
Visible, tangible sample needed for identification of solids and liquids.
Gas identification will require sample collection.
May be unreliable at low temperatures. Consult user manual for operating temperature limitations.
Additional expense may be involved in purchasing / maintaining spectral libraries.
Consider type and availability of batteries.
