Description: Satellite service with handheld device.

ImportantFeatures: Operation similar to cell phone.
Some systems have 'dispatch' or push-to-talk (PTT) capabilities (e.g. one-to-many).

Operating Considerations: Consider battery management and frequency of use; infrequently-used devices may fail when needed due to battery issues.
Line-of-sight to satellite (outside antenna) required. In-building/car kits are available for portable satellite phones.
Consider integration to LMR or LTE device.
Service costs/fees.
Consider data versus voice (or both) needs. Data throughput generally very slow for this type of device, and can cause many Internet applications to time out.
Consider long-range planning of service provider/systems long-term viability.
Consider if you will be making international calls (cost and access).
