Description: Devices that utilize biometric characteristics (fingerprints, palm prints, iris or retinal scanning, tissue matrix, etc.) to authorize access to facilities and/or systems.

ImportantFeatures: May be implemented as a peripheral device or integrated into other hardware.

Operating Considerations: Check both false positive and false negative error rates. False positives are more serious since they validate an unauthorized user.
May create conflicts with other software or some operating systems - be sure to test on actual hardware/software configuration before procurement.
Allowance should be made for circumvention using a backup factor such as a password.
