Description: Emergency medical protective helmet (certified as compliant with the NFPA 1999 requirements of NFPA 1950).

ImportantFeatures: NFPA 1950 (1999 ) helmets are mainly intended to provide physical protection in different hazardous environment or when riding in the back of an ambulance. These helmets are likely to be lightweight helmets with a energy-absorbing means, suspension system with sweat band, chin strap, nape device, sweat band, and retroreflective markings. Helmets provide impact resistance as specified in ANSI /ISEA Z89.1, Standard for Industrial Heat Protection, and are also tested for performance of the suspension and retention systems, attachment of goggles (if provided), and visibility of retroreflective markings.

Operating Considerations: NFPA 1950 (1999) emergency medical protective helmets should be used whenever physical hazards to the head may be encountered during emergency medical operations. Helmets may be needed in provide head protection while working in the back of a moving ambulance. Compliant helmets do not provide any special protection against bloodborne pathogens. Use considerations are provided in OSHA Title 29 CFR Sections 1910.132 and 1910.1030; NFPA 1500, Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program; and NFPA 1581, Standard on Fire Department Infection Control Program.
